About the Item

A refined Baroque sculpture carved in wood and gilded with gold leaf, depicting an allegorical female figure in an upward movement. The work, likely part of a sculptural group for an altarpiece or sacred architectural decoration, stands out for its dynamic treatment of gestures and the folds of the drapery, characteristic of the full Baroque style of the 18th century. The figure appears in a semi-seated position on a base (modernly presented in red velvet), with one arm extended and head raised to the sky, in a clearly ecstatic attitude. The body twists, accompanied by a wide mantle that wraps around the waist and creates an elegant curvilinear rhythm. The right hand holds a circular element (probably a wheel, an attribute of Saint Catherine, although it could also be an allegorical symbol). The carving is extremely expressive, with special attention paid to the anatomy, the details of the fingers, the tension of the body, and the fluidity of the dress. The gilding retains a rich antique patina that demonstrates its authenticity and age.
