About the Item

Mid-18th century mannequin with its original silk dress and wig. This lot is a rare and highly desirable artefact in the form of a handmade articulated female wooden mannequin. This item was obtained from a country house auction in the UK, believed to be European in origin. This stunning item still has its original base, metal support brackets and full sections in place. One of the arms is articulated as is the head and it seems the other arm had some repair to its elbow joint many years ago, therefore is restricted in full movement as first intended. The paint across this item is single layered and shows a wonderful artistic finish as you can see in the photos provided. The head detaches from the body and is articulated in a 360 degree motion. The wig and dress also can easily be removed, the dress is made from silk and stitched with gold lace, and the wig is made from horse hair we believe. The metal supports brackets are riveted in place and hold the figure upright very firmly. This item is quite special in our professional opinion, we feel it’s more a piece of art and would hold a great presence in any country home or romantic interior setting. Size in inches: H 54” x W 17” x D”. Condition: This item is dated mid-18th century therefore expect wear and tear across the surfaces and structure in the form of a patina and aged scuffs, cracked paint, and light aged chips (a number of repairs have also taken place across the right mid arm section, and the original base which the item is secured to has lost a section of its front section (shown in the photos provided). It’s suggested to review all the photos provided as part of this advert.
