About the Item
A stunning antique early 20th-century Austrian Art Nouveau bronze portrait figurine / sculpture depicting the renowned golfer Harry Vardon, titled "Joueur au Golf". This piece is dated circa 1925 and was created by sculptor and designer Richard Thuss (1865–1953). It was crafted by the esteemed company Argentor of Vienna, Austria.
This captivating and elegant Jugendstil sculpture is crafted from black-finished bronze and mounted on its original marble base, enhancing its overall allure. A finely modeled and meticulously detailed example of Viennese bronze craftsmanship. The sculpture stands 12.5 inches tall and remains in very good, original condition. It is marked on the base with "Argentor Vienna," a hallmark of its provenance and quality.
Henry William Vardon (9 May 1870 – 20 March 1937) was a celebrated professional golfer from Jersey. He was a member of the esteemed Great Triumvirate alongside John Henry Taylor and James Braid. Vardon won The Open Championship (also known as The British Open) a record six times and claimed victory at the 1900 U.S. Open.

Unique Antique Hand Crafted Bronze Golf Player in Backswing Sculpture / Statue
Located in Lisse, NL
Good size antique bronze golfer from the 1920s.
This stylish golfer in his 1920s golf outfit is an absolute joy to own and look at. Apart from the curved body posture the artist has managed to capture most of the details that one would expect when a good golf player strikes a ball with a small wood. Although in this day and age there are players such as Scottie Scheffler who have their own idea of what a perfect golf swing should look like. Unfortunately, we cannot find a signature on the base or anywhere else on this rare antique golf statue...
