19th Century Carved and Painted Belgian Wood Statue of Saint Peter
Fully hand carved wood statue of Saint Peter is in remarkably good condition retaining its original paint due to it being in the original placement of the Ava Marie Maricolen Cloister church until today. The church was built in Antwerp in 1860 for the Catholic Sisters Maricolen. Included in the purchase are photos of the Church and written provenance. As a former fisherman, Saint Peter is the patron saint of net makers, shipbuilders, and fishermen, and, because he holds the “keys of heaven,” he is also the patron saint of locksmiths. Possibly because he is said to have walked on water with Jesus, he is the patron saint of cobblers and of those with foot problems.
