19th Century French Hand Painted Polychrome Terracotta Fisherman Figurine

About the Item

This antique earthenware composition sculpture was created in France, circa 1880. The "terre cuite" figure (aka terracotta) depicts a fisherman amongst multiple fish baskets wearing a hat and boots, and holding a pipe, in the manner of French artist, Joseph Le Guluche. The ceramic statue is in excellent condition with earth tones throughout the clothing, baskets, and ground upon which he sits in a hand painted polychrome finish. This unique piece would make a great outdoor garden figure. Numbered 356 on the back. Joseph Le Guluche (1849-1915), was a French sculptor who mainly used terracotta as his medium. His work is divided into several broad categories: seascapes, rural subjects, and female allegories. A set of his works are preserved in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire Louis-Senlecq in L'Isle-Adam, France. Measures: 7.5" W x 8" D x 6" H.
