Allegories of the Greek Gods Eros & Erato An Italian Carved Sculptural Group Carved from a single block of Carrara marble, the winged putti cavorting together, one playing a trumpet and the other a tambourine. With a pan flute at their feet and quiver with arrows among roses. The circular base bearing the artist's monogram "AM." Italian, circa 1900 In Greco-Roman mythology, putti are spiritual beings, depicted as plump children with wings. They are associated with Eros/Cupid the god of Love, as well as Erato, the goddess of lyric and love poetry. Dimensions: H: 27 in / 69 cm W: 14.5 in / 37 cm D: 12 in / 30 cm.
