20th Century Plaster Italian Bas-Relief Sculpture, 1950s
About the Item
Great bas-relief from the mid-20th century. Plaster work depicting a wedding ceremony from Roman antiquity. In fact we find two young people shaking hands, a very intimate gesture used only for weddings, given that the Romans never touched each other when greeting. The other figures on the sides seem to be divinities linked to the marriage tradition, furthermore we find two characters intent on bringing animals for sacrifice or destined for the banquet. Bas-relief with great charm, ideal for a large living room or study. Sculpture in beautiful patina which has some small defects and signs of aging (see photo). Structurally sound work, overall in good state of conservation.
