About the Item

A superb and rare white Carrara marble sculpture sign by the famous sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. It represents a woman standing, tying two doves, with a bouquet of roses at her feet — excellent performance quality. Our sculpture is signed by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, French Napoléon III period circa 1860-1870. Dimensions: H 24.01 In. - D 8.66 In. In fine original condition. Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887): Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse or Carrier-Belleuse, from the age of 13 years, works as an apprentice at the chiseller Bauchery, then in the workshop of silversmith's trade of Jacques-Henri Fauconnier. In 1840, the pupil of David d'Angers (1788-1856), enters the School of Fine Arts of Paris. Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse begins in the Paris-Show of 1850 before being hired in the factory Minton China Work, in England where he also manages an art school. Back in Paris in 1855, with increasing fame, he becomes the most famous decorator of the French Second Empire and the Third Republic period. He receives official orders for the Tuileries, The Louvre, the City hall, the Opera … Auguste Rodin joined him in 1864, at the age of 24. Called to Belgium in 1870 to adorn a monument in Brussels, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse hired Auguste Rodin to work with him. After the Commune de Paris, he comes back to France and finds its workshop from Montmartre. Appointed Art-Director of the Factory of Sèvres in 1875 until he died in 1887, he impulses a modernization of the style there. He publishes in 1884 a collection of decorative art. Auguste Rodin will work again with him from 1879 on the Factory of Sèvres. Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse finds his inspiration in the art of the Renaissance and in that of the 17th century. Going away from the academic tradition of the School of Fine Arts and with a neo-baroque style, he obtains from the material of the unequaled potentialities of decoration. Artist in the fertile imagination, sometimes a little bit easy, nicknamed « Clodion of the Second-Empire » by the brothers Goncourt, it leaves a large number of busts, small groups, statuettes, and decorative objects. It is considered one of the precursors of the Art nouveau. Auguste Rodin learned many of this sculptor whose talent and the virtuosity he recognized. In 1882, in homage to Carrier-Belleuse, he realized a bust which was exposed to the Paris-Show the same year. Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse is also a painter, who has produced portraits and landscapes of the French Opal coast.
