About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning, G.B Amendola plaster statue on pedestal base of Lord Frederic Leighton’s 1881-1882 painting titled Wedded, signed to the base A very well made and decorative pairing, the statue can be used with or without the pedestal however they have always been together. The top of the base of the statue is signed as follows Modelled by GB Amendola From the picture of Sir Frederick Leighton Condition wise both pieces have aged well and have a genuine patina, there is a large chip out of the underside back of the base of the statue, it doesn’t really make any difference as its on the bottom Dimensions Height:- 159cm top to bottom, pillar only 88.5cm Width:- 36.5cm Depth:- 36.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Giovanni Battista Amendola (1848–1887) was an Italian sculptor from Sarno. Life He studied in Naples at the Academy of Fine Arts. Much of his work is to be seen in Naples, including a statue of Joachim Murat for the façade of the Royal Palace, a bust of architect Enrico Alvino in the grounds of the Villa Comunale. In Salerno his Pergolesi Dying can be seen at the opera house. He also sculpted the caryatids at the entrance of the Mausoleo Schilizzi in Posillipo. He moved to England, receiving commissions both there and from abroad, with the latter including the well-known bronze of a pensive woman entitled The Dominant Thought, and Wedded (a 21"-high bronze of a young couple). He also produced a seated statuette of Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema. This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
