About the Item

Two adorable hen sculptures designed by Archimede Seguso (born 1909– died 1999) was one of the 20th century’s master Venetian glass makers. The surface of the glass hens would have been covered with an irregular layer of melted wax applied with a sponge; the sculptures was then submerged in a vat containing sawdust and hydrofluoric acid to acquire the corrosion of the zones unprotected by the wax. The result is a textured frosted surface. The sculptures produced by Seguso Vetri d’Arte founded in 1933, was one of the most major glass furnaces in the center of visionary and technical innovation. Individual heights 7 1/2in (19cm); 8in (20.5cm) Literature: Marina Barovier and Attilia Dorigato, 'Animals in Glass: A Murano Bestiary', Canal & Stamperia Editrice, 1996, p. 11 (model illustrated).
