Beautiful Art Deco ceramic sculpture; it depicts a delicate, ethereal nude maiden lying,
a soft veil encircles part of her body; the artifact was produced between 1925 and 1928 in France by the Faiencerie Saint-Clement in Lunévillois; the base bears the name of the artist who made it: Lemanceau. Charles Lemanceau was born in Paris in 1905 and died in Trebeurden in 1980. From 1923 he worked with the Saint-Clement pottery company in Lunevillois for which he produced many of his works with an aesthetic inspired by constructivism and cubism; in 1925 he participated in the "Salon d'Automne" with fellow artists including Raoul Dufy, Le Corbusier, Henri Matisse, Maurice Utrillo, and many others; in 1930 he worked for the French Sainte-Radegonde factory in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) founded in 1887 by Gustave Ash. Lemanceau specialized in sculptures of nudes and stylized animals; he was one of the French artists who best interpreted Art Deco. Saint-Clement was founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette of Luneville; the history of earthenware in the Lunévillois region thus dates back to the 18th century, and the objects that are still produced in and around Saint-Clément are the fruit of this long tradition. In 1892, the factories of Lunéville and Saint-Clément joined forces and dominated the French pottery market. Our sculpture, in addition to presenting the characters and engaging workmanship of white ceramics, has balanced and harmonious proportions, very well represented the body of the maiden, slender, full of an elegant and composed grace; overall a refined and elegant object that fits well in any room of the home. Measures width cm.54, depth cm.14, and height cm.32. The statue is in good condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, Styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

- Saint Clement Style France Art Deco Statue Pair White Craquelè Ceramic PantersBy Saint-ClémentLocated in Prato, TuscanyWe kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Beautiful Art Deco sculpture in white craquelé ceramic depicting a pair of panthers; the noble animals are depicted walking, with their plush stride, in the tall grass in a calm and relaxed attitude; the powerful muscles of the beasts are relaxed, but the representation is always charged with strength and pride, a classic example of the Art Deco style that exalted in its artistic expressions the forms, strength, and power of both humans and animals. The object features very distinctive workmanship: the piece of raw ceramic was first molded into its final soft and elegant form, then fired at about 1000° C, then an ancient technique was used by applying "crystalline" (a transparent vitreous coating) with an ox brush; then distributed, again with a brush, white glaze over the entire body of the panthers; the glazing stage requires a lot of skill, as the glaze must be evenly deposited on the surface of the object, at which point, very quickly, to fix the glaze, the piece was put into the kiln between 920 and 940 degrees for the final firing. By looking at the underside we can better understand this technique. The panther pair...Category

- Ruchot Jean Charles French Sculptor Art Noveau Statue of "Science" in SpelterBy Jean Charles RuchotLocated in Prato, TuscanyWe kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular and elegant statue in spelter with marble base; the sculpture represents a young woman in a beautiful plastic and slender pose that holds in the left hand a laurel wreath and in the right hand a sheet of paper with an inscription, probably of scientific formula, in fact, the statue is the interpretation of "Science". The crown "triumphalis", precisely called "laurel crown", in Greek mythology symbolized wisdom and glory, it was the highest honor for a poet who had just graduated. Laurel was considered a sacred plant also by ancient Romans: it was venerated in particular by Apollo, god of the sun, music, poetry, sculpture, and painting. Precisely because of his countless knowledge, in fact, Apollo represented wisdom and intelligence. On the pedestal has been applied a scroll with the name of the sculpture itself and that of its author: Jean Charles Ruchot. It was made in spelter, with the technique of "lost wax", by the artist himself in his workshop in Romainville, a French commune located in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, between 1900 and 1905. Jean Charles Ruchot, the refined and prolific artist, was active from 1890 until 1925, he produced classical works inspired by antiquity, then he was influenced by Art Nouveau, then by Art Deco, styles in which he expressed his greatest talent; he created many statues both in bronze and in spelter, he is also the author of many objects of decorative arts: lamps, sculptural groups for clocks and advertising objects. Spelter is a zinc-lead alloy that is aged to resemble bronze, but it is softer and can be easily melted and worked unlike bronze, composed of copper and tin, which melts between 850° and 1020°. Spelter has been used since 1860 to make objects that could compete with bronze, because of its great convenience and ease of use, this material had very strong dissemination and use when many sculptors and bronze Art Nouveau and Art Deco used...Category
