About the Item

Maurice Guiraud-Rivière (French, 1881–1947) “Les Danseuses” Patinated bronze with brown and green finish on carved onyx base Signed Guiraud-Rivière to the bronze France, circa 1925 A superb Art Deco bronze group depicting two elegant dancers in flowing drapery, caught mid-motion as they move in harmonious rhythm. Each figure is rendered with remarkable grace and anatomical precision, characteristic of Guiraud-Rivière’s dynamic treatment of the human form. The sculptor captures a sense of perpetual movement—draperies swirl around the figures as if stirred by an unseen breeze, emphasizing the period’s fascination with modern femininity, music, and dance. Executed in finely patinated bronze with subtle green highlights to the dresses and mounted on a warm veined onyx base, this piece exemplifies the refined balance between sensuality and stylization that defines the French Art Deco aesthetic. Works such as this were cast by leading Parisian foundries of the 1920s, including Etling and Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann, who collaborated with the artist on several limited editions.
