Rare Art Deco hand-carved wooden candlestick sculpture, in the style of Dagobert Peche / Wiener Werkstätte, Vienna, 1920s
A striking and rare Art Deco sculptural candlestick, hand-carved from wood, likely Austrian in origin and dating to the 1920s. The kneeling female figure balances an arched three-light candelabrum on her head and raised hands – a pose rich in symbolism and stylized form. The design language clearly echoes the aesthetic of Dagobert Peche and the Wiener Werkstätte, known for their fusion of ornament, craftsmanship, and modernist vision.
The figure is executed in solid wood with a beautiful patinated surface in warm bronze-gold tones, exhibiting natural craquelure and aging that enhance its authenticity. The base is composed of a fluted architectural wooden platform with angled feet, characteristic of the Art Deco era.
