Wiener Werkstätte figure Madonna from white glazed porcelain by Ida Schwetz-Lehmann for Wiener Werkstätte 1923, Vienna. A high quality and lovely figure Madonna with Jesus represents Madonna with a sheltering cloak from white undecorated glazed porcelain designed in the Viennese Art Deco period 1923. Many amazing details are important to be emphasized like angel heads under Her cloak and the sweet face from Mother and Child. WW stamped underneath the globe made in Austria, No. 41 Very good condition approx. measure: Diameter 20.5 cm Height 35 cm Ida Schwetz-Lehmann ( 1883 - 1971 ) studied at the Fine Art School in Vienna. She was a female Austrian ceramic artist . She designed many figure designs and she belonged to the female creative heads responsible for ceramic at Wiener Werkstätte. Her membership at the Wiener Werkstätte lasted from 1912 - 1923. Wiener Werkstätte was founded in 1903 by Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and the industrialist Fritz Waerndorfer and was so popular for their excellent interiors and designs around the world. Ida Schwetz-Lehmann joined in many exhibitions, amongst others at the Exposition internationale des arts decoratif et industriel 1925 in Paris. Ida Schwetz-Lehmann had a female pioneering role at this time as the other creative female artists at the Wiener Werkstätte during a male dominated period.
