Art Nouveau Bronze 'Pan of Rohallion' by Fredrick William Mac Monies, 1890 Orig

About the Item

A pan boy standing on a ball supported by Fish around the base. Has the two flutes. Signed on the base Frederick William Mac Monies and dated 1890 and with the Foundry seal. Has the letters on the base (M.D.C.C.C.L.X.L.) One sold at Rago’s Auction several years ago at 53,000.00. The patina is heavily warn on this one, but should not be touched. Very famous Artist and well sort after. From a private collector for many years. Was found long ago outside in a fountain. It will require special handling for delivery (White Glove)! And special packing . The flutes come out for shipping !

ABOUT THE SCULPTORE Emmanuel Villdnis (French, 1858 – 1914) was born to Italian parents in France, in 1858. He moved with the family to Piedmont, Italy, in March 1861; after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy. Known in Italy as Villani, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Albertina in Turin from 1871 to 1880 alongside master-sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi. When Villanis graduated, he exhibited his first works in cities across Italy, notably his bust ‘Alda’ in Milan, in 1881. Villanis returned to France in 1885, living and working in the Montmartre district of Paris and didn’t leave Montmartre until his death on August 28th 1914. Aktien-Gesellschaft Gladenbeck was a foundry located in Berlin, Germany, that operated from 1851 until 1926. During the 75-year period when the foundry was in operation it was one of the most important foundries in Germany and was known for producing high quality bronze castings. The Aktien-Gesellschaft Gladenbeck foundry opened for business in 1851[2] in Berlin, Germany, under the leadership of its founder, Carl Gustav Hermann Gladenbeck. It was one of the most important foundries in Germany, known for high quality bronze castings. The foundry cast many of the best known bronze sculptures created by German artists in the mid-late 19th century and early 20th century. In addition to serving the usually modest casting requirements of German sculptors, the foundry was also capable of casting large-scale bronze statues.
