About the Item

Austrian Cold Painted Bronze Bedouin Maiden & Attendant at Well, Fully Signed Franz Xavier Bergman (Austrian, 1861 ~ 1936) This exquisite Austrian cold-painted bronze sculpture by Franz Xavier Bergman (Austrian, 1861–1936) is a masterwork of Orientalist art. Rich in detail and artistry, this piece captures a serene moment at a well, where a Bedouin maiden stands holding a bronze urn beneath a tall palm tree. To her left, a turbaned attendant crouches, rifle in hand, adding a sense of quiet vigilance to the scene. The sculpture is masterfully rendered with a realistic portrayal of the figures, showcasing Bergman’s renowned skill in capturing life-like scenes. The piece stands 16 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 7 inches deep, making it an impressive display. The sculpture is fully signed in two places: stamped with a capital ‘B’ in a twin-handled vase at the back of the maiden’s cloak and inscribed with 'Geschutzt,' along with numbers and a copyright mark on the rockwork base. The richly worn patina enhances its authenticity, giving the piece a warm, time-worn beauty.  This rare and highly detailed work is ready to be displayed and admired, offering a glimpse into the romanticized vision of the Middle East that was popular in European art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A true collector's piece, this sculpture embodies the artistic ability and cultural fascination of its era. Overall Measurements: 16 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 7 inches deep Base measures 9 inches wide and 7 inches deep.
