Belle Époque Sculpture, Queen of the Fields, 19th Century

About the Item

A stunning Belle Époque bronze spelter sculpture titled “Queen of the Fields” signed by Auguste Moreau, featuring a graceful young woman clutching a bundle of wheat, mounted on a fluted column pedestal. Made in France in the late 19th century, this work is a celebration of harvest, fertility, and natural beauty. The woman, draped in a flowing gown, looks over her shoulder in a dynamic pose, her movement captured with exquisite realism and romanticism—hallmarks of Moreau's artistic language. This sculpture, also known by its French title Reine des Prés, reflects the fin-de-siècle sensibility for allegorical representations of nature and femininity. It combines technical mastery with symbolic storytelling, making it a true collector’s piece. The figure stands 88 cm (35 in) tall and is perfectly complemented by a column base measuring 102 cm (40.15 in) in height. Together, they reach an imposing 191 cm (75.19 in), making it a striking centerpiece for refined interiors. Signed Aug.
