Bomb by Clive Barker 4/8 1998
About the Item
Clive Barker, British, b 1940 is a British Pop Artist.
The bomb is one of my favourite pieces he has done. Its witty as if taken from a Popeye cartoon yet shiny and beautiful reflection modern day aspirations - its a superb example of postmodern pop art - Witty parody drawing from the past yet reflecting the present . I love it
Barker’s past is still central to his present work, as 1960s London and New York are brought in to echo his later work. Drawing from Popular culture I would categorise Barkers work as Post Modern . Like Robert Venturi who drew inspiration from The Las Vegas strip Barker draws from everyday popular culture like the Simpsons or Mickey Mouse.
