Bomb by Clive Barker 4/8 1998

About the Item

Clive Barker, British, b 1940 is a British Pop Artist. The bomb is one of my favourite pieces he has done. Its witty as if taken from a Popeye cartoon yet shiny and beautiful reflection modern day aspirations - its a superb example of postmodern pop art - Witty parody drawing from the past yet reflecting the present . I love it Barker’s past is still central to his present work, as 1960s London and New York are brought in to echo his later work. Drawing from Popular culture I would categorise Barkers work as Post Modern . Like Robert Venturi who drew inspiration from The Las Vegas strip Barker draws from everyday popular culture like the Simpsons or Mickey Mouse. His Credentials..... Public collections include British Museum, London Imperial War Museum, LondonMuseu de Arte Contemporanea MAX/CCB, Colecção Berardo, LisbonMuseum für Moderne Kunst, FrankfurtNational Gallery of Victoria, MelbourneNational Portrait Gallery, LondonPhiladelphia Museum of Art, PhiladelphiaStaedtische Kunsthalle, MannheimTate Modern, London The Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.Victoria and Albert Museum, London
