About the Item

A Bronze Figure of a Faun Dancing with Clappers, 19th Century Provenance: Private Victoria Collection. Description: The Grand Tour bronze modelled after the ‘Dancing Faun’, a Roman copy (143cm tall) of an original Greek bronze dating from the late 2nd – early 3rd Century BCE belonging to the ‘De Medici’ collection. Currently housed in the Uffizi, Florence. The bronze figure depicts the Satyr fervorous and transfixed in dance, a cymbal in either hand, the right hand raised near to his head and the left hip level, his right foot placed upon a kroupezion, (a wooden percussion instrument played with the foot) and his weight balanced upon the left foot. The figure leans forward with a wild ecstatic and expression, as if goading others to join him in a similar state of bacchanalian revelry. The figure raised on a stone disc base. Dimensions: Height: 61.5cm. Width: 34cm. Depth: 20cm.
