About the Item

This is a cold painted bronze figurine of a Turkish dancer with a Parrot, by or after Paul Philippe, made in France in the Art Deco period, circa 1920 . The figurine is beautifully sculpted by or after Paul Philippe - see below - with the long limbed female form typical of the Art Deco period generally. The figurine is called " La Danseur Perroquet" and has been well cast with very good cold painted detail. The bronze has a lovely depth of color, which is difficult to capture in a photograph. The bronze is very well patinated showing a lighter color to the high points of the figure where it has been handled and polished over the years. The bronze sits on an onyx base which compliments the bronze figure well. We date this piece firmly in the Art Deco period, circa 1920. We cannot find any signatures or markings on this piece but examples of this figurine are shown in the books; 1) Art Deco Sculpture by Victor Arwas, published by St Martins Press, New York, Page 43 and 2) Art Deco and other Figures by Brian Catley, published by the Antique Collectors Club, Page 249.       Paul Philippe. (1870 to 1932). Born in Thorn, Poland. He was a pupil of Larroux . He exhibited with success at nearly all the salons in Paris, France, producing many bronze sculptures and became famous for his very shapely, slim and elegant female figures, epitomising the Art Deco period.

Art Deco Lady Figurine Table Lamp Bronze Sculpture, French circa 1930
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a stunning figurine table lamp of a nude lady bronze Figurine sculpture made in France, circa 1930. The figurine is heavy and made of bronze metal with good detail. It has been cold painted with a green colour which has worn away in places, showing a patinated bronze colour beneath. The lady is stood on a round ball above a shaped shell like base. The figure is holding the lamp above her head with the electric cable running into the base and vertically up her back to the lamp fitting above. A coloured spherical glass shade firmly sits in the dished support. The light is currently fitted with a small bayonet fitting, the whole electrical fitting having been PAT tested for safety compliance in the UK. The fitting could easily be modified to suit the electricity supply of the country where it might be used . This piece is typical of the Art Deco aesthetic, with the sleek lines of the nude girl figure holding the globe light above. The lamp is in full working order. This is a substantial heavy piece weighing about 2.5Kg unpacked. Overall a beautiful original Art Deco Lady Figurine...

Early antique Russian Travelling Icon in bronze, 18th Century or earlier
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is an early Russian orthodox travelling Icon, hand made of bronze, which we date to 18th Century or earlier. The bronze icon is cast with a main rectangular slightly curved shape with a smaller rectangular tab section above. The reverse has a hanging spigot cast into the top tab section. This piece has a mix of colours within the bronze with the high points being worn and shiny from wear and use. This antique bronze icon probably depicts Saint Nicholas as the central image with other figures ( children?) either side of the head, all within a border. There are other details on the icon including letters and numbers towards the top of the main rectangle. The tab section is also decorated. The reverse also carries decoration but is quite worn. Overall an early and very interesting Russian bronze Icon...
