Let’s get this cleared up right now: No, he’s not holding a cell phone. Instead, this little fellow is doing the job he was created to do, namely providing a place to hang a pocket watch when not on the person of the owner. As a figural bronze pocket watch stand, called a "porte montre" in French and here presented in the form of this cheeky cherub, he might have performed his function atop a desk, or on the bedside commode (before indoor plumbing).
