Bronze sculpture “Cupid”. Inspired by models by Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau (1834-1917).
Marble base Lost wax casting.
The figure of the child is identified thanks to its wings and the arch it shows. Cupid appears half-naked, with the quiver at his feet, and a stump behind him. The work is based on models created by a member of the well-known Moureau family: Mathurin exhibited for the first time at the Paris “Salon” in 1848, and it was in 1897 that he received a Medal of Honor. His work, inserted in that appreciated family style, shows a series of particularities that are still maintained in this sculpture. ·

A fine model of a rural young farmer resting against a rocky outcrop to sharpen his scythe, the base of which has been set in the hay collected in a pile beside the rock; the naturalistic base is signed along the back in his typical nearly cursive script "Math. Moreau".
