About the Item

Bronze with a brown patina depicting a couple embracing in a passionate embrace. This scene was immortalized by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828), nicknamed "the Sculptor of the Enlightenment," one of the most important sculptors of the 18th century, particularly of the Neoclassical period. Appreciated for the realistic rendering of his works and his extraordinary talent, the young prodigy won the first prize for sculpture, known as the Prix de Rome, at the Royal Academy in 1761. "The Kiss Given" depicts a young man wearing a headband over his wavy hair, languidly kissing a young woman dressed in a flowing gown that delicately reveals her breasts. A wreath of flowers unites the two lovers, emphasizing their love and the attraction they feel. The young woman abandons herself, enveloped in the arms of her beloved, in this ode to sensuality. This work is presented on a pedestal resting on a circular anthracite gray marble with white veining. This bronze perfectly embodies the romanticism of the era and the union of two souls. It will charm you with its refinement and grace. ******** Period: Late 19th century Perfect condition. Reference: 508T
