Bronze Sculpture "La Source" Signed Lucie Signoret-Ledieu
About the Item
Sculpture "La Source" in bronze with a medal patina signed Lucie Signoret-Ledieu. It represents the goddess Diana, goddess of the hunt, sitting on a rock from which a spring escapes on the left. With her right hand, she is drinking from a conch while the other hand holds her bow and quiver full of arrows by the strap. Her tunic in the antique style, held by a round brooch at the shoulder, shows a breast. She is wearing a bun and a headband with a crescent moon, her main attribute. The terrace is decorated with leaves and signed Mme Signoret-Le dieu. The circular, stepped base bears a cartouche reading "La source par Mme Signoret-Ledieu récompensée au Salon". This rotating composition gives a certain refinement to the young woman.
Lucie Signoret-Ledieu (1858-1904) was a French artist who trained as a student of Jean Gautherin. She was a member of the Central Union of Decorative Arts. From 1878, she exhibited plaster figures at the Salon and received numerous awards. Her sculpture La fileuse is exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.
