About the Item
Proof in bronze with shaded brown patina depicting Leda and the Swan. A great classic in the 19th century, based on the myth of Leda seduced by Zeus, who took the form of a Swan. Early edition cast signed on the mound. Black marble base.
Born in Sens on March 17, 1833, Louis Kley apprenticed as a jeweler before turning to sculpture in 1850, taking lessons from Justin-Marie Lequien. He exhibited between 1853 and 1897, producing a large number of statues, statuettes, busts, medallions, groups and bas-reliefs. He was awarded the silver medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris. He died in Sens on March 8, 1911.
