About the Item
Large bronze sculpture with a brown patina, signed Hippolyte Moreau (1832–1926). He was the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau and brother of Mathurin and Auguste, all renowned 19th-century sculptors. Hippolyte followed traditional and academic canons for the representation of the body and exalted feminine beauty with particular attention to detail. He enjoyed considerable success, winning two medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1877 and 1900.
"Jeune Paysanne" is an ode to youth and the terroir, imagined by the artist at the end of the 19th century. It depicts a young woman with a childlike face gazing into the distance. Her slender throat is highlighted by her light dress, which features a flowing drape that emphasizes her curves. She holds a pitchfork in her hand, while her bare feet are anchored in the vegetation.
The signature H. Moreau is affixed to the base. The artist has created a finely sculpted work that will delight lovers of refined art objects.
