In this expressive bronze sculpture Bill Lett is capturing the ferocity and vigor of a Roman charioteer and his horses. The bronze has been patinated to a rich mottled surface and is resting on a wood base bearing a small artist plaque. Bill Lett: Lett has been an artist for almost half a century. He attended Hiwassee College and The University of Tennessee, majoring in art education and related arts. He took several graduate classes, private class in lapidary work, and many work shops in various areas. Lett made objects and animals from scraps while serving in the United States Army in South Korea that was featured in “The Army Times” and “The Stars and Stripes”. He has done store display work, commercial art, sign painting, and taught art in the Knoxville City Schools for almost thirty years. His work has been shown in department stores, churches, homes, hospitals, and offices. He has shown with the Foothill Craft Guild, the Southern Highland Guild and is a lifetime member of both. Since 1960 he has shown sculpture at various art and craft shows, winning Best of Show in the 1999 Foothills Craft Show in Knoxville and Best Metals in Show in Oak Ridge during the 1992 Foothill Craft Show. Although he sells most of his artwork locally now, he has often sold to many craft shops in several states as well as several countries.
