About the Item

Dog is a glass decorative object realized in the first decades of the 20th century by the Italian artist Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna, 1831 - Milan, 1905). Made in Italy. Bronze. Hand-signed by the artist on the base: Tabacchi. Very good condition. Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna, 1831 - Milan, 1905). Tabacchi was an Italian sculptor. Among others, his works include the monument to Cavour in Milan (with Antonio Tantardini), the monument to Arnaldo da Brescia in Brescia, cast in Rome at the Roman Foundry of Alessandro Nelli [2], and the Cuzzetti and Sedaboni tombs at Vantinian cemetery in Brescia, Paleocapa and Garibaldi in Turin, Foscolo and the equestrian monument to Umberto I, in Asti in piazza Cairoli. From 1867 he held the chair of sculpture at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, at the request of his predecessor and teacher Vincenzo Vela. In this period his production was oriented rather on gender figures, especially female statuettes of easy setting and workmanship, which earned him a wide popularity and were widely replicated. His works are characterized by a personal touch in the insistent and minute description of the subjects depicted, a mimetic research derived from the naturalism of his training, often led to accentuated results. More tempered in expression when it comes to celebratory monuments, in the works of this genre he reveals an aesthetic aimed at easy understanding, lively and direct communication of the message. This contributed to the popularity of the artist, which he exhibited in major Italian exhibitions and also in Paris and Vienna. Among his most faithful students are counted: Giacomo Ginotti, Pietro Canonica, Davide Calandra, Edoardo Rubino, Giuseppe Realini, the famous Leonardo Bistolfi and Luigi Contratti.
