Cast in bronze and patinated, this sculptural work depicts a male figure captured mid-movement carrying an unidentified object. The anonymous figure lacks any facial or identifying details. Signed Demanet and stamped BL Paris on the integral base, this work dates to circa 1920 and stems from Victor Demanet (1895-1964), a belgian sculptor who exhibited at the 1924, 1932, and 1936 Summer Olympic competitions.
Executed with a Expressionist spirit, the work possesses an animated, gestural quality. As a french sculpture from the early 20th century, it reflects the modernist zeitgeist and avant-garde aspirations of the interwar period. Though untitled, the work offers insight into Demanet's energetic handling of the male form and interest in implied narrative.

Victor Demanet
Victor Demanet was born in 1895 in Givet (Ardennes) and died on February 7, 1964 in Ixelles. He was a student of D. Hurbin and C. Meunier, and regularly participated in the “Salon des Artistes Français” of which he became a member, obtaining a third medal in 1935.
