About the Item

Created circa 1915 this work in bronzed plaster is from the school of art dealing with the diminishing culture of Native Americans as witnessed by European schooled painters and sculptures in the American southwest. Hand molded and sensitive to that lost time the figure is dignified and reserved with great attention paid to the face, eyes and mood created. The surface is very clean and quite well preserved. At the reverse is the monogram of the artist WHM vertically connected but as yet we have not been able to fully identify the maker. Works like this in painting and sculpture are all from the mid-first decade to circa 1920 or 1925. Thus we place this work in that time frame. Several like modeled bronze bookends can be found and a number of similar but slightly different sculpted bust can be found but the exact identity of the sitter or artist is as yet to be determined. Condition Disclosure: While we do our best to carefully inspect and give a full report on the condition of any item we sell, pointing out any repairs or alterations that may have been done to the best of our knowledge, as is the case with any antique and vintage item, there is a possibility that at some point in the life of the piece that there may have been damaged which has been professionally repaired and as such a repair undetectable, it is therefore impossible for us to disclose... we recommend that you also read and agree to the 1st dibs user agreement, particularly sections 9,13,15,18,19 and 27

Entitled “Femme Debout au Drape” the work is dynamic and powerful as are almost all of the artist's figural works in bronze. The figure is cast and retains its original patina in a dark black-green.
