Description :
Biographie d'Émile Just Bachelet :

Biography of Émile Just Bachelet:
Born in 1892, Émile Just Bachelet studied at the Nancy School of Fine Arts, where he was a student of Jules Larcher for drawing and Ernest Bussière for sculpture. He later continued his training at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he met Georges Roty, who introduced him to Parisian high society.
Declared unfit for active duty, he was mobilized in 1915 during World War I as a military hospital nurse, where he created busts of wounded soldiers and doctors, including Maurice Bedel. During this time, he met Dr. Chompret, a ceramics enthusiast who played a significant role in launching his career.
Settled in Paris on Rue Campagne-Première, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1920 onward and won multiple competitions, including for the Monument to the Fallen of La Fontenelle (Vosges), solidifying his reputation in Lorraine.
He sculpted the reliefs for the Nancy Pavilion at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, as well as works for the 1931 Colonial Exhibition and the Universal Exhibitions of 1935 and 1937. In 1935, he became a member of the Société des Lorrains de Paris and was named Knight of the Legion of Honor.
Notable Works and Collaborations:
Created tableware, religious objects, advertising pieces, and small sculptures (chicks, ducks).
Produced numerous ivory sculptures, including birds and nudes, some of which were intended for the 1939 New York International Exhibition (one was destroyed in the fire of the ocean liner Paris in Le Havre).
Collaborated with renowned architects Paul Charbonnier, Henri Antoine, Jacques Gruber, Jean Prouvé, and Pierre Le Bourgeois on various monuments, such as the funeral chapel of Gustave Simon at the Préville Cemetery in Nancy (1927) and the United Stores building in Nancy (1928).
In 1927, he acquired land at 6 Villa Seurat, Paris, next to the house designed by André Lurçat for his brother Jean Lurçat, within an architectural ensemble inspired by the Bauhaus movement.
