About the Item

Mary-Lynn Massoud and Rasha Nawam focus their latest creations on instinctive trials and possible contingencies, rather than a premeditated process. The ceramists expose an extended series of investigations into materials such as, stoneware, glass, iron powder, porcelain and glaze. Through this, they discover how the materials react to specific conditions, while not being able to entirely control the outcome. The pieces’ key characteristics such as form, color and texture are driven by the artists but also allowed to take shape naturally. The action of forcefully throwing the stoneware onto the ground while still raw, the application of unexpected materials to the glaze and the combination of different colors, are all trials that demonstrate the ability to manipulate the result without having full control over it.
