Exquisite Pair of 18th Century Italian Angelic Wood Carved Male Figures

About the Item

An exquisite Italian pair of carved and giltwood angelic male figures from the early 18th century. This pair of antique statues from Italy each feature a beautifully carved male figure, each draped within a gilt robe, with shoulders, arms, legs exposed. They each are kneeling on one bent leg. One figure has his hands crossed about his chest, the other having his palms closed in a pray like position. The facial features are nicely detailed, showing an almost sorrowful expression, evoking thoughtfulness and compassion. Each of the figures are raised upon platform style bases, standing just shy of 3 feet in height. The gilt and painted wood finish has a nicely aged patina with areas of slight chipping, which we feel add to their character; a show of their rich history and age. This pair of early 18th century Italian statues will add a classical and eloquent style, while making a lovely display of art and history within your home.
