Extremely Fine Northern European Carved Wood and Polychrome Decorated Figure

About the Item

The kneeling Angel portrays a loosely draped gown and is kneeling amongst clouds, with the sacred heart of Jesus in its hand. The dramatic pose and composition of this piece, along with the sensuous treatment of the loose unkempt hair and the schematised swirl of heavenly cloud upon which it kneels are all indicative commonalities of high Baroque sculptures from Austria and Germany in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
