About the Item

An extraordinary marble bust, characterized by greyish veins, depicting the Maid of Orléans, Joan of Arc. The attribution is confirmed by the inscription "Jeanne d'Arc" on the front. The sculpture portrays the young Joan not in military clothes, but in civilian clothes, with a humble veil covering her hair and a simple dress, visible only at the beginning of the bust, closed by laces. This portrait stands out for its interpretation, as it is devoid of warlike elements; the artist has chosen to express instead the compassion, fear and sensitivity of the young woman. The extraordinary skill of the artist is evident in the rendering of the face, particularly in the features and eyes, which convey a profound meaning. It is attributed to an anonymous French artist, as the signature is missing, whose work dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Measurements: H x W x D 36 x 39 x 18cm
