About the Item

Fossilized Future_D by So Koizumi Dimensions: W 44 x D 35 x H 58 cm Materials: Oak Wood, Soil, charcoal, Waste from daily life (such as coffee grounds and vegetable peels) Weight: 49 Kg. "Fossilized Future" is a collection of furniture born from imagining the fossilized form of contemporary resources in the future. As resources of today fossilize into the future, he questions how the current society will be perceived in the future, and how today’s human creations will give impact on the future. By surveying the present from the perspective of a future where these furniture will be discovered as fossils, it offers a new viewpoint. By viewing fossils not as relics of the past but as metaphors linking the past and future, he considers that things created in the present will eventually shape the future. Therefore, these furniture works are made from materials generated in our contemporary daily life, such as wood from nearby forests felled due to oak wilt disease and soil-like materials found in the surrounding area. These materials include not only minerals and charcoal that are components of the soil, but also natural materials discarded daily such as rice husks, leftover coffee grounds, and vegetable peels, serve as traces of everyday life. He developed and experimented with these materials to create a unique material that could be considered as the ‘contemporary soil’. These large blocks made from these materials are created by the designer and cut by a chainsaw. This process resembles excavating fossils buried in the soil, and the discoveries of the exposed cross-sections are preserved as they are.

Mazer 350 Sculpture by Tom Fereday
By Tom Fereday
Located in Geneve, CH
Mazer 350 Sculpture by Tom Fereday Dimensions: W 35 x D 35 x H 55 cm Materials: Solid Travertine. Weight: 76 Kg. MAZER COLLECTION: Mazer represents a series of geometric sculptures, each a celebration of the fundamental beauty and natural variation of stone. Strict brutalist forms of the table and seating collection are juxtaposed by soft organic cutaways carving through the porous stone surfaces, revealing the natural beauty and character of travertine. Named after the medieval term ‘Mazer’ meaning bowl, the collection presents subtle organic forms proportioned for table and seating function designed for permanence. Porous formations of the stone’s structure act as an intentional disruption to the clean geometric forms of the series adding character and intrigue. The limited edition series was crafted from travertine and locally produced in Italy from a combination of machine and traditional hand made processes, each piece exhibiting its own unique characteristics and form with no one piece alike. Mazer is designed by Australian designer Tom Fereday exemplifying Fereday’s desire to honour materiality, combining form and function to produce enduring works. Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment. Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012.
