About the Item

French 19th century patinated bronze statue of Hermes, signed Elias Roberts. Raised on a rectangular base, Hermes is seated on tied cushions, wearing his winged hat and sandals, his draped cloak billowing behind him. His hands, which hold a small bag, rest on the caduceus entwined by two serpents. Louis Valentin Robert, called Élias Robert (1821–1874), was a French sculptor known for creating gilt and patinated bronze sculptures, particularly of classical figures, candelabra, and other decorative artworks, often with classical themes.
