French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Napoleon III Period Statue/Desk Accessory
About the Item
A charming and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Napoleon III period ormolu statuary grouping of Jean de la Fontaine's Fable "Le Loup plaidant contre le renard par-devant le singe". The beautiful statuary is raised by a rectangle ebony base with fine brass, bone and silver floral inlays. The richly chased and intricately detailed statues are of a wolf and fox dressed in elegant attire and top hats. The wolf and the fox are arguing their case in front of the judge, the seated monkey wearing a judicial robe and hat. This Fable's name translates to "The wolf complains to the fox in front of the monkey". Following the fable, the moral was: The liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth.
