About the Item
An exceptional and extremely high quality French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Belle Époque period patinated bronze and ormolu statue of Demeter and Poseidon. The impressive statue is raised by a circular ormolu base with a wonderfully executed ground like design and a richly chased fallen basket of flowers and a column with charming wheat sprigs. Above is Poseidon wearing a crown holding Demeter in his arms fainting backward while dressed in a wonderfully executed flowing dress.
