French Neo-Classical St. Ormolu Statue Signed Jean Antonin Carlès
About the Item
An elegant and high quality French Neo-Classical st. ormolu statue signed Jean Antonin Carlès, Paris 1903. This statue is named Jeune Disciple de Bacchus, (The Young Disciple of Bacchus), and is raised by an onyx base which follows the contour of the ormolu base. The slender student is holding a goblet in his hand and has a detailed grape leaf and clusters crown in his hair. A handsome panther lies very comfortably curled around his legs. Wonderful proportions and all original gilt throughout. The statue was seemingly awarded as a tribute to a Mr. Le Lieutenant Colonel Cordier from the city of Paris dated 1910.
