This glazed and hand-painted porcelain figurine depicts a young boy dressed in a suit and bowtie, standing with hands clasped in front holding a top hat. The boy is posed next to a small suitcase and an attentive dog sitting on an integrated oval base. The base is marked with the stamps of Marcel Goldscheider and Myott Son & Co., indicating its production in Stoke-on-Trent, England around 1950. The figural group exhibits skilled modeling and hand-painted detailing on the porcelain.
Friedrich Goldscheider originally founded the notable Goldscheider Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna in 1885. After fleeing Nazi persecution in 1938 his son, Marcel Goldscheider, relocated to England and partnered with Myott Son & Co. to produce porcelain pieces. This charming figurine came out of that partnership and exemplifies Goldscheider's Art Déco inspired sculpture and mastery of porcelain. It captures a sweet mid-century childhood scene with quality craftsmanship. Overall, a fine example of Goldscheider's english period.
