About the Item

Magnificent bronze cast with a black and green patina, signed Adrien Etienne Gaudez (1845-1902), a renowned French sculptor, gold medalist at the 1889 Paris World's Fair. This 67 cm high work is presented on a large rotating base. It depicts David, the future king of Israel, defeating the Philistine hero, the giant Goliath, with a stone thrown from a sling. This biblical episode was chosen by the artist to celebrate courage and strength, accentuated by the beauty and impressive size of this bronze. David is depicted naked, simply dressed with a sheepskin around his hips. His athletic body is perfectly defined. In his right hand, he firmly holds his sling. His bearing is haughty and glorious, his perfectly physiognomic face is raised and surrounded by flowing hair.
