About the Item

An important bronze with a green patina, titled "The Departure" and signed on the base. Victorien Tournier (1833-1910), a French sculptor specializing in neo-Gothic sculpture, is known for having decorated three emblematic sites in Paris: Notre-Dame, the Hôtel de Ville, and the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. "The Departure" depicts an ancient warrior, marching barefoot across a mound of vegetation. The man is lightly dressed, with a muscular torso, and an animal skin covers his crotch and part of his buttocks. He is about to draw a sword. His long hair flutters in the wind. Determination is evident in his gaze: he is going into battle. An ode to male beauty and virility, this work will charm its owner. ******** Period: Second half of the 19th century Excellent condition.
