About the Item

Important oak sculpture depicting James, son of Zebedee, commonly known as Saint James, brother of John, both among the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Legend has it that James went to evangelize Spain. Returning to Jerusalem after many years, the holy man was beheaded and his remains brought back to Compostela by his disciples, which has become a major Catholic pilgrimage site. This 18th-century work depicts the saint wearing his pilgrim's attributes: his staff, satchel, wicker basket, and hat bearing his emblem, the shell. This important sculpture will add a unique dimension to your decor. ******** Period: 18th century Excellent condition. Later base and staff. Delivery available in France and internationally.
