About the Item
A handsome and high quality Italian 19th century Grand Tour Period patinated Bronze statue of The Discus Thrower, modeled after Myron. The impressively detailed Discobolus, which is based on Myron's statue from 460-440 BC, is raised on an elegant oval ground designed patinated Bronze plinth displaying the signature of Myron and location of The Vatican Museum. Discobolus is captured in stunning detail and displaying a pensive expression, with his discus is extended backward and poised for release.
Myron, a Greek sculptor active around 460–440 BC, is credited with the original Discobolus. While the original bronze is lost, several Roman marble copies survive and have become iconic.
