About the Item

A handsome Italian early 19th century white Carrara marble statue of Aeschines. The sculpture is raised on a rectangular base with the philosopher in classic draped attire and footwear. Extremely well executed and fine details and expression. Aeschines ( 389-314 BC) was a Greek statesman and one of the ten Attic orators. The ten were considered the greatest orators of the Classical era 5th to 4th century BC. They are included in the Canon of Ten which originated in Alexandria.
