Italian Grand Tour Bronze Figure Narcissus Inscribed Fonderia Amodio, Napoli
About the Item
A Neapolitan Grand Tour bronze figure of Narcissus, after the original sculpture excavated in 1862 at Pompeii, third quarter 19th century. Narcissus is shown naked, with only an animal skin slung over his should. He is pausing mid-stride, gazing downward at the pool of water, falling in love with his own reflection.
This is a fine example of this particular bronze, with a wonderful light verdigris patina. Good scale at 2 feet high.
Measures: 24 inches high by 9.5 diameter.
Cast by Michele. Amodio, Naples. Foundry inscription to base, Fonderia Amodio, Napoli.
