About the Item

Italian Plaster Sculpture Depicting Moses Inspired by Michelangelo Early 1900s. This plaster work recreates one of the masterpieces of Renaissance art, Michelangelo's Moses, inspired by the original marble sculpture created by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564). Created in the 16th century for the funeral monument of Julius II, preserved in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The figure of the biblical prophet has a few small misses besides the right arm and has a warm, brown patina in shades of gray, probably due to old staining. Iron reinforcements are visible at the corners of the lower base. It comes from a private collection and dates from the first half of the 1900s.
