About the Item

A very fine antique Coalport parian bust of the Prince of Wales sculpted by John Rose and dated 1863. Probably made to commemorate the forthcoming marriage of Albert Edward Prince of Wales to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863 the parian bust stands raised on an integral rounded pedestal base with the bust very finely modelled with the head of the young prince wearing a shirt with a medallion bearing a head and with a jacket attached with a single button. The modelling is finely executed with wonderful detail and a natural white parian finish. The integral stand is marked to the back with an incised John Rose Sc. Signature mark along with Coalport and appears to be dated 18th February 1863. A small banner below the bust reads H.R.H.P. Wales. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. Offered in good condition with wear associated with age and use.
