About the Item
Beautiful deep blue and green colored Murano glass object.
Fabricated by Stefano Toso in the 90's, Venetia Italy.
This stunning rectangle glass item has been hand-blown with traditional techniques dating back to the 13th century.
It is in very good condition, just one tiny chip on the brim of the back side (see picture).
It is originally marked with "S Toso Murano", see the picture.
Stefano Toso was born on November 11th, 1958, in Venice, into a family with a long history of glassmaking.
He began his apprenticeship with his father, Berto, at a young age in their family glass works.
In 1975, he started training as a glassmaker at the A.L.T. Glassworks.
Later, he completed an apprenticeship in engraving at the F. Moretti Glassworks and under Livio Seguso.
In 1977, Stefano opened his own state-of-the-art furnace and cold working studio, where he created his original glass pieces.
Working with master Egidio Costantini, he produced pieces inspired by the famous Fucina Degli Angeli.
He gained experience in various fields of artistic production but specialized in enhancing the form of glass through precise cold work and etching, a skill he developed through his association with Livio Seguso.
In 1982, Stefano opened a furnace in partnership with Romano Donà, where he perfected his art for the next 12 years.
During this time, he collaborated with various artists, including Robert Willson, Kyohei Fujita, and Lucio Bubacco.
Stefano and Lucio Bubacco developed new techniques to create an innovative collection of glasswork for galleries and collectors worldwide.
Stefano Toso is now retired, leaving behind a legacy of masterful glasswork and contributions to the art of glassmaking.

Very Large Murano Art Glass Cobalt Blue and Green Sommerso Dolphin Sculpture
By Vintage Murano Gallery
Located in Tustin, CA
Very impressive, hand made and mouth blown in Italy, Murano art glass sommerso figure or sculpture of a dolphin in a very vibrant cobalt blue color with fading green accents, clear fin and head. The word "sommerso" means submerged which involves submerging a blown glass article in a crystal clear molten glass of a different color. This technique was started in the 1930's by Carlo Scarpa. Murano sculptures with color are twice as expensive and more sought after than the all clear ones because the technique of doing so can only be done by a very experienced master glass blower. This is a very large and stately art glass sea life sculpture...
